Our History

The first Redeemed Christian Church (RCCG) in Edmonton; Rhema Chapel was inaugurated in February 2004 with Ayo Adejumobi as the Pastor. Rhema Chapel was first located at 8816 51 Avenue. Prior to 2008, the church was looking for how to reach out to the entire city of Edmonton rather than having a cathedral in one location of the city. In the year 2008, the leaders of the church were led to have new Parishes within Edmonton City in order to reach out to various communities and neighbourhoods. Thus, four parishes were founded in the year 2008; one of which was Christ Church Edmonton. Christ Church Edmonton was officially inaugurated on August 24th, 2008 by Pastor Paul Oloyede (the then Zonal Pastor) even though the first service was held on August 1st at her first location 3238 Parson Road, Edmonton under the leadership of our then area pastor, David Odugbemi.

Two families were sent out from Rhema Chapel to start Christ Church in the south side of the city with David Oladipo as the Parish Pastor and John Adigun as the Assistant. The other three Parishes were located in different parts of the city. Thereafter, two families from Rhema Chapel joined the parish. Over the years, other families from different parts of cities and Provinces in Canada joined the Parish. Later on, Christ Church moved to Sandman Hotel on Ellerslie Road where she had to assemble and dismantle every Sunday for a whole year before she moved to a more permanent location at 2936 Ellwood Drive which was the first owned property of the Church. The Church stabilized over the first three years of her existence by the grace of God and contributions of faithful brethren who spent their time resources and placed their gifting and talent at the Lord's disposal.

Through the grace of God, the Church moved to her present location [2327 -2331, 90B Street, Edmonton AB T6X 1V8] in 2016. This was necessitated by the then obvious need for a more spacious facility to accommodate her expanding membership and a dire need for more space for children and the youth arm of the Church. The church has grown and presently comprises the following fellowships: The Men of Valour, the Women of Substance, the Young Adult Fellowship, Teenagers and Children Fellowships. The church fulfils her vision and mission through various ministering arms like the Choir, Prayer Team, Ushering and Treasury, Welcome and Visitation, Sunday School, Training, Administration, Media, Hospitality, Facility Maintenance etc to provide fellowship, edification
and spiritual direction.

We reach out through our Evangelism and Outreach Unit with a goal to have nations in our community for the Lord before he comes by the grace of God. God has opened doors of opportunities to us at the Rutherford Retirement Centre where an hour service is held for seniors every Sunday since October 2013. We are privileged to have some ministry opportunity at the Hope Mission Edmonton since the fall of 2017. Through the grace of God, another door of ministry was opened unto us at MacTaggart Place where we now minister every fortnight. Furthermore, the Lord helps Christ Church, Edmonton to reach out to Camrose city through Mount Zion which was inaugurated November 12, 2017, with Kunle Adeniji as the Parish Pastor. All these could only have been possible through the grace of God and efforts of men and women of God, brothers and sisters God had added to the Church since 2012 and keep adding since then.

Our goal is heaven at the end of our journey. Our mission is to take as many as possible along with us. We are the habitation of God’s glory and the expression of His person. We seek to represent Him every day of our lives as we discover His grace. We are yet to obtain it, neither have we been made perfect, but our aim is to press on to take hold of that which Christ Jesus took hold of us.

The future is glorious because it is Christ’s Church.
